Artistic Residency - community project

Research on creating a mobile installation AVISTAR

The Belgian art collective TimeCircus brings together professionals from diverse fields such as architecture, design, sculpture, visual, plastic and performing arts, making it a truly multidisciplinary and versatile group. Founded 25 years ago, it is known for its installations with great visual and social impact, often created in direct dialogue with the communities where it operates.

In this inspiration phase for writing a future creative project, we are hosting Tom Doof, Sven Roofthoof, Sebastian Boomans, Bram Soli, Griet Wils and Emmelie Martens in residence.

This artistic residency arises from the joint desire of the TimeCircus and AvistaVulcão collectives to develop a new collaborative project specifically designed for the island. It is the beginning of a long-term creative process that will unfold in several phases over the next few years.

The two collectives share an artistic vision centered on the relationship with the territory, nature, and local communities, and intend to create a work that reflects this deep connection with the island and its inhabitants. To this end, they will return to the location several times, carrying out different stages of the project — from research and experimentation to construction and final presentation.

The goal is to present the final results of this process between 2025 and 2026, integrating not only the contributions of the artists but also the experiences shared with the local community. This first residency thus marks the starting point of an ongoing project that aims to grow in dialogue with the island and those who live there.
